Alumnus of Top engineering college Heritage Institute of Technology secures a top rank in UPSC 2017-18 from Bengal

Alumnus of Top engineering college Heritage Institute of Technology secures a top rank in UPSC 2017-18 from Bengal.
B.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering in the year  2010  from Heritage Institute of Technology Kolkata, Azar Zia needs more from life and that has prompted him to quit a cushy corporate job and attempt the civil services examination. He cracked it with a rank of 97, the highest from Bengal ā€“ the third Muslim candidate from the state since Independence and the first in 36 years to become an IAS officer.
A St Jamesā€™ School alumnus, Zia was a bright student right from school. After Graduation from Heritage Institute of Technology Kolkata, he went on to do his MBA at Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi.ā€Initially, I wanted a corporate career for myself and so I studied engineering. But after a few years, I realized I could do much better with a business management degree. So I appeared for CAT,ā€ said the 31-year-old Azar Zia from Tantibagan, near Beniapukur.
After completing the MBA course from FMS, Delhi, Zia got a job as a brand manager with Asian Paints. ā€œBut soon I started feeling a void in my life. The fat salary did not entice me anymore and in 2015 I decided to resign,ā€ he said.
Zia joined the Hamdard Study Circle in Delhi to prepare for the UPSC exams. His family was initially unhappy with his decision but Zia managed to win them over. ā€œSince my father and my uncle were both civil servants, I grew up in an environment where service to the community and society was always discussed. I was drawn to the field subconsciously and it was not hard to convince my parents,ā€ said Zia, who cleared the exam in his third attempt.
He cleared the prelims in 2016 but fell ill with chikungunya. ā€œI took the exam again in 2017 and was confident of clearing it but never thought I would be in the top 100,ā€ said Zia, who thinks his experience in engineering and business management helped him.
ā€œWe are proud that Azar Zia has made our State proud in the Nation and we will be inviting him for an interaction in the inaugural ceremony of the induction programme of our new batch of engineering students so that he can share his experience with them which will really be a source of inspiration for the prospective engineers,ā€  said Mr.Pradip Agarwal, CEO,Heritage Group of Institutions Kolkata.
Recently Azar an alumnus of Top engineering college Heritage Institute of Technology  was felicitated at Rehnuwa-E-Niswan organized at Aliah University
in the month of May 2018 in the presence of Janab Jawaid Akhtar labour commissioner and former managing director at the West Bengal Minorities Development and Finance Corporation.
